Different Methods of Resistance Training

Different Methods of Resistance Training

There are many different methods of resistance training out there, In fact, there are so many different types of resistance training that it can become confusing on which form to do and why.

In todays article, you will be able to read about the most popular types of resistance training and you will be able to learn the following about each type:

  • What the type of resistance training is.
  • How they affect your body.
  • The benefits of this method of resistance training.
  • The cons of this method of resistance training.
  • The score of this method on; Maximal strength, Strength endurance, Speed strength and Muscle size.

That being said, let us get started.

What is Resistance Training?

Before we look into the different methods of resistance training, let us find out what resistance training actually is.

The definition of resistance training is according to; http://medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/resistance+training “Any method or form of Strength training used to resist, overcome or bear force.”

As you can read, there are three different types of “Force” that can put pressure to our bodies.

To resist force: An external force pushes, or pull on our body, and we have to resist that external force.
A good example for this is “Negatives or eccentric training.”

To overcome force: there is an external force that is in one place, and we move it to the another place.

An example of to overcome force is to pick up a weight from the floor; raise it above our head and put it back down.

To bear force: There is an external force that tries to make us move.

Good examples of this are isometrics. Let us say that you perform a plank. The gravity is here the external force that tries to push you down. And you have to push back to stay in position.

Different Methods of Resistance Training

I know that there are many other types of resistance training, however only a few types are efficient.
 And here at Get Lean Strength we cut out everything that is not efficient, because of that I wrote about the following types;

If you feel that I missed an important method, feel free to let me know, and I might write an article about that type in the future.

Do note that we talk about different methods of resistance training today, not about different tools for resistance training. Because of that, I will not go into the differences between barbells, dumbbells and gymnastic rings etcetera.

Conclusion

These are of course not all the different methods out there. However, these are the most practiced ones.

If you look at the different benefits and cons of the different methods that you just read you will notice that there is not one single method of exercise that build everything at once.

This means that you need to have a good mix of the different methods and that you program in such a way that allows for maximum benefits and for maximum volume and intensity against the lowest recovery times required.
